The Planets Are Busy. You Don’t Have to Be.
A Venus retrograde reflection on love, beauty, values, perspective + the art of slowing down.

Consider this a cosmic weather report for anyone who needs permission to slow down, zoom out + come back to themselves.
Everything has an energy to it.
A room.
A song.
A person.
A Tuesday morning.
You.
And whether or not you check the weather app before you leave the house, you already understand that you live in relationship with the world around you.
If it rains, you might change your shoes.
A gray day can change the light in your apartment, the traffic on your commute, the plans you made, maybe even your mood.
When it’s 92 degrees outside, you probably don’t wear the cashmere.
We adjust.
We respond.
We work with the weather instead of taking it personally.
And maybe there is something useful about approaching the larger sky that way, too.
Not because every planet gets to run your life.
Not because Mercury made you send the text.
And definitely not because you need one more thing to be anxious about.
But because we are living on a planet, orbiting a star, inside a solar system, inside a galaxy, inside a universe so enormous that our darling little human brains quite literally cannot comprehend all of it.
Our Milky Way alone contains hundreds of billions of stars. And the observable universe contains billions upon billions of galaxies. Scientists estimate the part of the universe we can observe is roughly 92 billion light-years across — and we still don't know the actual size of everything beyond it, or whether the universe itself is finite or infinite.
Which is one of my favorite reminders:
not everything has to fit inside your current understanding to be real, meaningful or worthy of wonder.
Sometimes the smartest thing we can say is:
I don't know yet.
THE SKY HAS CYCLES. SO DO YOU.
The Moon is an easy place to begin.
We know, scientifically, that the Moon's gravity is a major force behind Earth's ocean tides.
You’ll sometimes hear that because humans are mostly water, the Moon must move our bodies in the same way.
That part is much less simple.
The average adult body is closer to roughly 55–60% water, depending on the person, and there isn't scientific evidence showing that lunar gravity moves the water inside us the way it moves enormous bodies of ocean.
But I don't think we have to exaggerate the science to appreciate the poetry.
The Moon moves oceans.
The Sun powers life on Earth.
Our bodies respond to light, darkness, seasons, temperature and the environments around us.
We are not separate from nature.
We are nature.
And throughout human history, we've looked up.
Science looks up and asks:
What is happening?
Astrology looks up and asks something different:
What might this moment help me notice?
I think there is room for both questions.
AND TODAY, VENUS LOOKS BACK.

On October 3, Venus begins a retrograde period that lasts until mid-November, beginning in Scorpio before eventually moving back into Libra.
First: retrograde does not mean Venus suddenly throws her little planetary transmission into reverse.
The planet continues along its orbit.
From our perspective on Earth, its movement against the background sky temporarily appears to reverse — an optical effect created by the relative movements of planets around the Sun. For inner planets like Venus, this happens as their faster orbit carries them past Earth.
Which, frankly, makes the metaphor even better.
Nothing is actually going backward.
It only looks that way from where you're standing.
Hello???
Put that on the mirror.
Because sometimes life feels exactly like that.
Progress doesn't always look like forward motion.
Sometimes progress looks like returning.
Reviewing.
Remembering.
Reconsidering.
Reorganizing.
Releasing.
Retrograde gets a dramatic reputation, but maybe we don't need another thing to fear.
Maybe it is simply an invitation to re-see.
VENUS WOULD LIKE A WORD.

In astrology, Venus is associated with love, beauty, pleasure, attraction, relationships, money and — perhaps most importantly — value.
Not just:
Who do you love?
But:
What do you love?
What feels beautiful to you now?
What are you spending your time on?
What are you spending your money on?
What are you tolerating because an older version of you once decided it was enough?
What still fits?
What doesn't?
What makes you feel rich that has absolutely nothing to do with your bank account?
What have you been chasing that you may not even want anymore?
And what would beauty look like if it were less about fixing yourself and more about feeling safe enough to actually inhabit yourself?
That last question feels especially important around here.
Because Nervous System Beauty isn't about becoming calmer so you can perform better for the world.
It's about creating enough internal room to hear yourself again.
The regulated version of you still gets to want the dress.
The trip.
The money.
The romance.
The gorgeous house.
The ridiculous dream.
We are not anti-desire over here.
Quite the opposite.
We just want to know that the desire is actually yours.
DON'T CLEAN THE GUTTERS IN THE RAIN.
You know I love a metaphor, so here we go.
A rainy day can show you exactly where the roof leaks.
But that doesn't necessarily mean you climb onto the roof in the middle of the storm.
You notice.
You gather information.
You make the plan.
And when conditions are clearer, you handle it.
Maybe retrograde energy can be used the same way.
You don't need to burn down the relationship because you had one uncomfortable realization.
You don't need an entirely new face because you're bored with your moisturizer.
You don't have to throw away your wardrobe because you suddenly hate every pair of jeans you own.
And you certainly don't need to rebuild your whole life by Monday.
Notice first.
Where is it leaking?
What keeps resurfacing?
What feels outdated?
What feels expensive energetically?
What keeps asking for your attention?
Information first.
Action from clarity.
THE BIG PICTURE IS VERY, VERY BIG.
October is the tenth month.
And after today, there are 89 days left in 2026.
Enough time for things to change.
Enough time for you to change.
Enough time to realize the dream you've been dragging toward the finish line doesn't actually belong to you anymore.
You are allowed to update the vision.
Goals aren't vows.
Desires evolve.
Dream lives are living things.
Maybe you thought you wanted one thing in January and discovered something entirely different about yourself by October.
Good.
That means you were paying attention.
A life that fits you should be allowed to change as you do.
And if everything feels particularly tight right now — your timeline, your relationship, your work, your bank account, your grief, your future, your own thoughts — I want you to remember how much exists outside the frame you're currently staring through.
Earth is one planet.
Our Sun is one star.
Our solar system is one tiny neighborhood inside the Milky Way.
And our entire galaxy is one among billions in the observable universe.
Your problem is real.
Your feelings are real.
But they are not the whole sky.
MAYBE THAT'S THE FREQUENCY.
Not escaping your human life.
Coming all the way into it.
Knowing when to move.
Knowing when to reconsider.
Knowing when the signal is getting buried beneath too much noise.
We spend so much of our lives looking outside ourselves for the answer.
The algorithm.
The expert.
The friend.
The horoscope.
The internet.
The person who surely knows better.
And sometimes those things help.
Sometimes another person holds the flashlight while you find your way home.
But eventually, there is a quieter place beneath all that input.
A place that doesn't usually scream.
A place you can hear more clearly when your body feels safe enough to be still.
Your own signal.
Your own knowing.
Your own frequency.
So while Venus looks backward for a minute, maybe you can too.
Not to live there.
Just to see the view from another angle.
Revisit what you value.
Reconsider what beauty means.
Remember what pleasure feels like without earning it first.
Review where your energy is going.
Regroup around the life you actually want now.
And then keep going.
Nothing in the sky is asking you to have your entire existence figured out today.
The planets are busy.
You don't have to be.
May you feel supported by the people beside you, by the life moving within you, and by whatever you believe may be loving you from above.
There is so much more out there.
There is so much more in you.
And when everything gets loud, you can always come back here.
One breath in.
One slower breath out.
Then listen.
The signal is still there.
